SmartXide DOT Therapy

SmartXide DOT Therapy is a revolutionary laser skin resurfacing method that has been approved by the FDA for use in the United States. Like traditional laser resurfacing, DOT Therapy uses a CO2 laser to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, redness and sun damage. In addition to performing traditional skin resurfacing since 1998, Dr. Glenn DeBias has performed over 21,000 fractional CO2 laser procedures to date, qualifying him as one of the most experienced practitioners performing fractional CO2 laser.  In fact, Dr. DeBias developed the first fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing protocol, known worldwide as Active FXTM.

The SmartXide™ laser with DOT Therapy™ is ideal for the treatment of dyschromia, skin laxity and texture, wrinkles, dermal lesions, photoaging, acne scarring and scar reduction.

What sets DOT apart from traditional resurfacing methods is its unique ability to treat specific areas within a target zone, as opposed to the entire face, using a new technology that splits the laser beam into fine micro beams. An added benefit of the DOT method is that skin is tightened up to 20 percent, and can actually be seen tightening during the procedure. Full results are typically noticed within two to four treatment sessions, held two to four weeks apart. Improvements should continue to be seen for six months following the final session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does SmartXide DOT treat?

It is a safe and effective way to treat sun damage, stubborn pigmentation, acne scars, rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands and surgical scars.

How many treatments will it takes to see the best results?

Depending on the degree of damage to your skin and desired results, most patients require 1-3 treatments, spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.

How much improvement can I expect?

Patients can expect to see improvement in the color, texture and quality of the skin within a week or two after the treatment; however, more significant improvement will be seen after the series of treatments is complete. Skin laxity can be furthered improved by combining SmartXide with radio frequency skin tightening and in some cases adding a feather lift procedure for very loose skin.

What does the treatment feel like?

There is virtually minimal, if any, discomfort during the procedure. Rarely, a mild burning sensation may occur. No topical anesthetic is required. However if we are working near the eye, say in the lower lids to create tightening there, then we would put protective eye shields in the eye with anesthetic eye drops as a precautionary measure to protect the eye itself; SAFETY FIRST!

What can I expect after the treatment?

Most people have some pinkness and some even a small amount of edema/swelling in the skin which settles in 24 hours and can therefore return to work the next day. Make-up can be worn the next day. We would advise that if you work in the public eye, or on television, then it may be advisable to plan to take off 5 working days, as studio cameras are unkind at the best of times! We recommend regular application of moisturizers during the day for the first 5-7 days as the skin may feel a little dry.
